Refined foods are foods that have been subjected to processes to make them more durable and/or visually attractive.

Some examples of refined foods are:

  • white sugar, the most common type of sugar used
  • white flour, where some parts of the grain are taken over before milling
  • refined salt, quite common, composed mainly by sodium chloride

There are some concerns related to refined foods because they contain less micronutrients than the original foods.
