I am just wondering why many steroid dose packs (such as a medrol dose pack) have patients slowly increasing the dose but don't taper off after the maximum dose is achieved. Would this not cause (at least sometimes/with some patients) steroid withdrawal syndrome?

What are the benefits of not tapering off, and how does this influence provider's choice for asthma vs other allergic reactions such as severe allergic dermatitis?

I'm sorry, but are you looking at the dose pack upside down? I'm not exactly up to date on dose packs, but every one I know of is of the tapering variety (I agree with this dose schedule, btw. Daily dose all at once in the am - with food.) I always prescribed oral steroids with a tapering dose, though it's not necessary in the short term. Feb 1 at 18:32
