So, I have this doubt. I searched the internet and everywhere they mention that rabies can't go through unbroken skin but nowhere they explain what broken skin means? When I scratch myself because of itching does my skin break? If I scratch too hard it is going to break but what if its a mild scratch? By mild scratch I mean the scratch only leaves a white mark that can be seen clearly on dark colored people but doesn't involve any bleeding and feeling of pain and the mark easily goes away even by gently smudging with hand.

I doubt anyone knows the precise answer to this precise question; it's also be variant specific, e.g. canine rabies is much less "successful"/infectious than bat rabies. It might help to know that people without any skin breakage have contracted bat-variant rabies and died. Apr 15 at 3:12
