My parents have been using infrared lamps for a while now to treat sinuses, headaches (and other body parts) and for home treatment in general. I am wondering if these lamps are really effective in treating pain in the body parts they are concerned about. I've never really thought about how specifically they work and if they actually help. Has anyone had contact with such equipment and know anything about their effectiveness?

If they worked, don't you think they'd be prescribed by doctors and marketed as medical devices? And wouldn't far fewer people suffer with those conditions or spend a lot of money on other more complicated treatments? See also xkcd.com/808 – Bryan Krause Feb 16 at 0:32
